چکیده

In this study, the evaluation of soil characteristics was coupled with a pyrosequencing analysis of the V2-V3 16S rRNA gene region in order to investigate the bacterial community structure and diversity in the A horizon of a natural saline soil located in Sicily (Italy). The main aim of the research was to assess the organisation and diversity of microbial taxa using a spatial scale that revealed physical and chemical heterogeneity of the habitat under investigation. The results provided information on the type of distribution of different bacterial groups as a function of spatial gradients of soil salinity and pH. The analysis of bacterial 16S rRNA showed differences in bacterial composition and diversity due to a variable salt concentration in the soil. The bacterial community showed a statistically significant spatial variability. Some bacterial phyla appeared spread in the whole area, whatever the salinity gradient. It emerged therefore that a patchy saline soil can not contain just a single microbial community selected to withstand extreme osmotic phenomena, but many communities that can be variously correlated to one or more environmental parameters. Sequences have been deposited to the SRA database and can be accessed on ID Project PRJNA241061.

Effects of Inoculation with Mycorrhizal Fungi on Growth and Heavy Metals Concentrations in Two Wheat Cultivars under Salt Stress Condition

The soil salinity and the diffusion of potentially toxic chemicals to the soil environment through industrial and agricultural activities are known as important factors affecting the productivity of crop plants. Thus, an efficient strategy to increase crop yield, and to improve human and environmental health, is necessary to mitigate the impacts of these detrimental factors. Accordingly, a fact...

Scientific data on the hulled wheats is scarce. Therefore, changes in some physiological attributes including carotenoids concentration, antioxidant enzymes activity, malondialdehyde content (MDA), cell membrane stability index (MSI) and grain yield in a hulled tetraploid wheat (i.e. "Joneghan") and  a durum wheat cultivar (i.e. "Yavaroos") in response to salinity and plant growth promoting rhi...

The effect of plant growth promoting potentials of rhizosphere bacteria isolated from several halophytic species on vegetative growth and ionic content of wheat

Salinity stress is an important challenge for wheat production in the world. Plant growth promoting rhizosphere bacteria, isolated from halophytic plants, can increase the tolerance of crop plants to salinity by direct and indirect mechanisms. In this study, plant growth-promoting traits of bacterial strains (Bacillus safensis, Bacillus pumilus and Zhihengliuella halotolerans), isolated from th...

Salinity effects on soil organic carbon and its labile fractions, and nematode communities in irrigated farmlands in an arid region, northwestern China

The effects of salinity on soil organic carbon (SOC) and its labile fractions including microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and easily oxidation organic carbon (EOC), basal soil respiration, and soil nematode community in the Fluvents, an oasis in an arid region of northwestern China were investigated. Five sites were selected which had a salinity gradient with different groundwater table from 1.0 m...

Archaeal diversity along a soil salinity gradient prone to disturbance.

We employed a cultivation-independent approach to examine archaeal diversity along a transient soil salinity gradient at Salt Spring in British Columbia, Canada that is routinely eroded due to heavy, recurrent rainfall. Archaeal 16S rRNA gene libraries were created using DNA extracted from three soil samples collected along this gradient. Statistical comparisons indicated similar archaeal richn...
